(Minneapolis, MN) — Medical professionals who treat victims of gun violence in Minneapolis say repeated shootings are taking a toll on those responding. Dr. Tim Kummer, an emergency physician and assistant medical director for Hennepin EMS, says doctors, nurses and first responders are struggling with the trauma. “We’re not OK. I’m not OK. None of us are OK,” Kummer said Friday. Kummer was the first physician on scene at the Annunciation School shooting last year and also responded to Wednesday’s deadly mass shooting in downtown Minneapolis. Medical professionals are calling for action to reduce gun violence.

(Winona, MN) — More than 145 survivors of sexual abuse connected to the Diocese of Winona-Rochester are expected to benefit from a new $30 million settlement. The agreement is with U.S. Fire Insurance Company, the diocese’s largest insurer. It follows years of litigation stemming from sexual abuse claims and the diocese’s 2018 bankruptcy. The diocese says the settlement was reached on August 27th and brings remaining litigation connected to its bankruptcy to an end. A previous $28 million settlement was reached in 2021 but did not include U.S. Fire.

(Falcon Heights, MN) — Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt says a Minnesota State Fair attendee placed an offensive sticker mocking George Floyd on a sheriff’s office vehicle without the agency’s knowledge. The sticker included an image of Floyd handcuffed on the ground with a large fentanyl pill depicted on his neck. Witt called the sticker “sickening” and said sheriff’s office personnel removed it as soon as they discovered it.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minnesotans hitting the road this Labor Day weekend are paying considerably more at the pump than they did a year ago. Triple-A says the statewide average for regular unleaded is about $3.98 a gallon, up roughly 86 cents from $3.12 at this time last year. In the Twin Cities, the average has reached $4 a gallon. The increase comes during one of the summer’s busiest travel weekends. AAA says higher crude oil prices are helping drive the increase.

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota waterfowl hunters will be out in full force today (Sat) as the state’s early teal and goose seasons get underway. The early teal season runs September 5th through the 9th, with shooting allowed from sunrise to sunset. The statewide early goose season continues through September 20th. The Minnesota DNR is reminding hunters to use extra caution around wild rice beds, where rice harvesters may also be on the water. Special teal hunting restrictions are also in place on some wild rice waters within the Mille Lacs, Leech Lake, and White Earth reservations. Minnesota’s regular duck and goose seasons open September 26th.

(Falcon Heights, MN) — The final days of the Great Minnesota Get-Together are here. The Minnesota State Fair heads into its final weekend before wrapping up on Labor Day. More than 1.18 million people passed through the gates during the first eight days of the fair. Attendance started strong, with records set on both opening Thursday and Friday, but crowds have slowed since then. Over eight days, the fair is only about 3,400 visitors behind 2025. The 2025 State Fair ultimately attracted more than 1.94 million people. The record is nearly 2.13 million, set in 2019.
